By mountain bike to the beach of Sant Salvador

It's time to put down the engine and trust your legs. The roads, paths and trails of the Costa Daurada offer walking and cycling tours that allow you to connect with the landscape a thousand times better than if you did it at high speed.

Pedaling through vineyards

An excellent TripIdea is to get the whole family's bikes ready and start the journey from Sant Jaume dels Domenys.

Check the pressure of the wheels, the operation of the lock and the height of the seat. The objective is to end up reaching the beach of Sant Salvador.

A slight descent begins on the road – keep to the right and do not overtake – until just after crossing the motorway, and then you will have to turn left onto a path. From here you can pedal more calmly between fields and vineyards.

Stone huts without any material that binds them together

Enjoy the pleasant views of the Baix Penedès coast and stop at the dry stone huts, which are preserved in very good condition. This region is where there are more examples of this type of rural construction in all of Catalonia. They are huts completely integrated into the landscape that date back many centuries. In fact, the first huts in Penedès are linked to the repopulation of this territory after the expulsion of the Moors, which led to the massive planting of vineyards.

The magic of these huts so present in Mediterranean rural areas is that they were built dry, that is, without using any material to join the different pieces. Fitting the stones together and balancing them by their weight is the essence of their architecture. That they have been preserved for almost ten centuries is a real miracle!

The last section of this excursion (which runs along the Mediterranean path PR-C12 and part of the GR-92) is along the recently conditioned access roads to the beach of Sant Salvador. If you also make the return – you can vary the paths – the route is 34 kilometres. The excursion we propose is suitable for children from 10 years old, but in sections and especially in the final section it can be done with younger children.

Outdoor and indoor spa therapy

After pedaling, your body deserves a tribute. On the beach of Coma-ruga there is a secret hidden that many visitors to the Costa Daurada do not know, although it was discovered more than a century ago. At the end of the nineteenth century, it was found that the water that flowed from the area of the lake and the Coma-ruga stream had medicinal and almost isotonic properties. Due to its high salt content, it is not suitable for food use, but it is suitable for external therapeutic use. That is why the stream is conditioned for bathing throughout the year. The place is also perfect for children, who do not slip because the sand on the beach makes a bed at the bottom. And don't worry, because the waters are thermal, ranging between 19 and 21 degrees depending on the season. Go for it and enjoy an outdoor health space!

The nutrients from these waters are also present in the spa treatments at the Hotel Le Meridien Ra, which is just a few meters away. In addition to enjoying the pleasure of an exclusive oasis, this spa combines traditional European therapies, such as thalassotherapy (with sea water), with disciplines of the prestige of The Art of Beauty of La Prairie in Switzerland, or the Ayurvedic experience of the Indian city of Kerala. The Explore Spa will make you realize that now that you can enjoy it, life is too short.
